Man charged in connection with Lynchburg shooting

LYNCHBURG, Va.UPDATE - March 9

The Lynchburg Police Department has identified a suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting in Miller Park.

Authorities said LPD’s Criminal Investigations and Forensics’ Units responded to the scene, and during the investigation, a gun was recovered in the car driven to the hospital by the victim.

After further investigation, police said it was determined that one of the men with a gunshot wound, identified as Dikembe’ Jones, 20, was a suspect.

LPD said Jones remains at Lynchburg General Hospital and has been charged with the following:

  • Malicious wounding
  • Use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Attempted robbery - causing serious bodily harm

The male victim also remains at Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two individuals injured in Miller Park Wednesday night.

Police say at 7:22 p.m., officers responded to Miller Park for reports of shots being fired in a parking lot next to the basketball court.

After the call, an individual arrived via a personal vehicle at Lynchburg General Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, authorities said.

LPD said another individual arrived at the Lynchburg Fire Department’s Station 6 with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital.
