Former Alleghany County chief deputy found guilty, sentenced on DWI charge

ALLEGHANY CO., Va. – A Former Alleghany County chief deputy has been sentenced on a DWI charge, according to court records.

As we previously reported, Matt Bowser was arrested and charged in April 2023 after he hit a guardrail while he was driving and refused to take a blood or breath test.

On Thursday (June 22), Bowser was found guilty of DWI, a class one misdemeanor charge, court records show.

We’re told Bowser was sentenced to 30 days with 30 days suspended, and his license will be suspended for a year.

Bowser is also required to go through the VASAP (Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program) and pay a $250 fine, according to the documents.

He is also under two operator license restriction codes, records show: Ignition Interlock Restriction and Travel To And From Ignition Interlock Facility For Monitoring,

Bowser was facing a civil violation charge of refusing a blood or breath test, which was dropped.

10 News was told there is no mugshot available for Bowser as he was taken before a magistrate during the booking process. If one becomes available, it will be added here.
