Roanoke Co. motorcycle crash leaves 61-year-old man dead

ROANOKE CO., Va.UPDATE

A 61-year-old man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into the rear-end of a tractor-trailer, according to Roanoke County Police.

We’re told a man operating a motorcycle, now identified as David Wells, was heading westbound on West Main Street toward Don Hollow Road.

At the same time, police said a tractor-trailer was making a left turn from Dow Hollow Road onto West Main Street when it was hit in the rear by the motorcycle.

Authorities said that alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the crash.

According to RCPD, the tractor-trailer driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are currently no charges pending and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

The road was closed temporarily, as we reported below. Authorities said the roadway has since reopened to traffic.

Westbound lanes of West Main Street at Dow Hollow Road in Roanoke County are currently closed due to a multi-vehicle crash, according to Roanoke County Police.

Authorities said a portion of SB Dow Hollow Road is also closed down temporarily, along with NB Exit 132 off of I-81.

Drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes.
