SALEM, Va. – A Salem elementary school is honoring one of their own in a special way.
On Thursday, East Salem Elementary School dedicated a brand new playground to Susan Bowles, the school’s music teacher who passed away unexpectedly in April. Students, staff, and family members were in attendance for the special event.

“Her energetic style of teaching kiddos to love music was something that spread to her co-workers and certainly to her family,” the school division said in a Facebook post.
The new playground is a collaborative effort between the Salem School Division and the East Salem PTA. As an ode to Susan, the new playground features music components built in.
