Man arrested following high-speed pursuit in Radford

RADFORD, Va. – A man was arrested after a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement in Radford on Monday, Radford City Police Department said.

RCPD said they located a stolen vehicle around 9 a.m. on Monday on the 1200 block of Rock Road East. When officers attempted to speak to the offender, the vehicle sped away, which initiated a pursuit.

Authorities pursued the suspect vehicle for around 6 miles, and 2 Stop Stick deployments helped bring the pursuit to an end. No injuries were reported as a result.

The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Joey Phipps. Phipps was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Felony Eluding
  • Possession of Stolen Goods
  • Possession of Schedule II Drugs (outstanding warrant)
  • Burglary (outstanding warrant)
  • Possession of a Weapon after Being Declared a Felon (outstanding warrant)

Phipps is currently being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
