The Virginia Department of Transportation has warned travelers of hazardous roads due to the winter storm currently impacting our area.
VDOT has emphasized that on top of large amounts of snow, freezing rain will also impact the area that can make driving very dangerous. If possible, stay off the roads. If you must travel, VDOT has recommended the following:

- Slow your speed
- Don’t tailgate
- Buckle Up
- Check Your Vehicle. Make sure your vehicle is in good working order for the conditions. Fill up the tank in advance. Check windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid, tire tread, battery life, etc.
- Don’t leave home without a window scraper, blanket, bottled water, snack, cell phone charger, and a flashlight.
VDOT has said that Interstate roads and limited-access roadways are their top priority. Roads numbered 1-599, and high-volume secondary routes will be cleared as resources allow. Low-volume secondary routes will be worked on after the main roads are cleared and additional resources are available.
