GALAX, Va. – Crews performed water rescues in Galax on Friday in the area of Pipers Gap Road and Old Quaker Road, according to Pipers Gap Rescue Squad.
According to the department, crews responded to the area at 4:59 p.m. and worked with Carroll County Emergency Management and Galax Fire and Rescue to assist the public with getting out of floodwaters and to safe areas.

According to the Galax Fire Department, seven people and four pets were rescued from Old Quaker Road. 25 residents self extricated from a mobile home park on Macy Drive and two additonal residents were removed with the help of the Virginia Department of Foresty on Colby Knob Lane.
