Seven displaced, one hospitalized after Vinton house fire

The fire caused approximately $175,000 in damage

Seven people were displaced and one person was hospitalized following a house fire in Vinton that caused approximately $175,000 in damage, according to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue.

The fire occurred shortly after midnight Thursday in the 200 block of Gunn Avenue. When crews arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the garage area. The Vinton Police Department was also on scene, helping residents escape the home safely.

One person was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters rescued one dog from the burning home and successfully resuscitated it using a pet oxygen mask. Another dog escaped without injury, authorities said.

The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
