One man dead after Lynchburg shooting, suspect in custody

LYNCHBURG, Va. 12:10 p.m. Update:

The Lynchburg Police Department has reported that they have located and apprehended the suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting at Pierce Street and 12th Street. According to LPD, 43-year-old Larry Kersey was apprehended after he surrendered without incident in the 5000 block of White Oak Drive.

Kersey faces charges including murder, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the department said.

The victim, who was pronounced deceased after being transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, has been identified as 45-year-old Anthony Cupec.

The vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect to flee the scene is now in police custody.

The Lynchburg Police Department extended condolences to the victim’s family and is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Donellan at (434) 473-1704 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online or via the P3 app.

The department said the investigation remains active and ongoing, with additional information to be released as it becomes available.


6:11 a.m. Update:

11:55 p.m. Update:

Lynchburg Police say one man is dead after a shooting Wednesday night. Police are still searching for the person responsible.

Officers responded to a shots fired call at the intersection of Pierce Street and 12th Street at 8:59 p.m.

Two individuals were allegedly arguing in the street, when one pulled out a firearm and shot the other.

Police say the victim was taken by the Lynchburg Fire Department to Lynchburg General Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead.

The identity of the victim has not been released, but police say he is an adult man.

Police say the suspect is possibly driving a large black sedan with black wheels. It was last seen heading toward 13th Street on Pierce Street.

LPD is investigating to learn the relationship between the two individuals.

A spokesperson for the department tells 10 News, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim[’]s family at this time.”

The Lynchburg Police Department announced Wednesday that officers were responding to a shots-fired incident in the area of 12th Street and Pierce Street. Officials say there is no known threat to the community at this time.
