LYNCHBURG, Va. – 1.8 Update:
The Lynchburg Police Department provided an update on the barricaded subject incident that occurred Wednesday evening.
According to officials, at 3 p.m. Wednesday LPD responded to the report of a trespassing in the 1400 block of 7th Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that 44-year-old Shawn Smith had unlawfully entered an apartment where he previously resided and refused to leave.
After several hours of negotiations and use of chemical munitions, Smith surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
Smith has been charged with Breaking and Entering and was also served an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear in Court.
7 p.m. Update 1.7:
Police have left the scene after ending a barricade situation involving a suspect in an apartment. Details on how the standoff ended are unknown at this time, but 10 News will continue to update this story with information as it becomes available.

LPD has secured the environment around the suspect and is attempting to make contact.
