Roanoke County Public School Board meets Tuesday night to discuss budget

ROANOKE CO., Va. – The Roanoke County Public School Board met Tuesday night and discussed its annual budget, as well as recent accomplishments.

Notable takeaways from the meeting included a $4.6 million increase to the health insurance fund and more than $203,000 added to the dental fund.

Despite losing $3 million in revenue in its $301 million total budget, the board also approved a 4.5% salary increase.

“We have good insurance and a 4.5% salary increase, but a long way to go to stay competitive and catch up with neighbors,” a board member said.

Roanoke County Public Schools rank 10th overall out of 130 districts in Virginia, officials said, adding they want to remain a top school division. They said long-term, they want to be a place people want to move to and send their children to school.
