Virginia sees 1,183 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 164,124 statewide

There are now 3,408 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 16, Virginia is now reporting 164,124 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Friday’s total of 164,124 marks an increase from Thursday’s total of 162,941 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,183 new cases in Virginia:

  • 120 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 61 new cases in Prince William County
  • 58 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 47 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 41 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 40 new cases in Arlington County
  • 37 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 35 new cases in Newport News
  • 31 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 30 new cases in Henrico County
  • 27 new cases in Greensville County
  • 24 new cases in Richmond and Lynchburg
  • 23 new cases in Norfolk
  • 22 new cases in Chesterfield County, Harrisonburg and Washington County
  • 21 new cases in Bedford County
  • 20 new cases in Roanoke
  • 18 new cases in Charlottesville
  • 17 new cases in Frederick County, Stafford County and Radford
  • 15 new cases in Salem
  • 14 new cases in Campbell County, Hampton, Albemarle County and Augusta County
  • 12 new cases in Hanover County, Rockingham County and Carroll County
  • 11 new cases in Franklin County
  • 10 new cases in Amherst County, Henry County and Lexington
  • 9 new cases in Alexandria, Suffolk, Russell County, York County, Shenandoah County and Staunton
  • 8 new cases in Scott County, Gloucester County, Wise County, Spotsylvania County and Wythe County
  • 7 new cases in Lee County, Page County, Winchester and Portsmouth
  • 6 new cases in Dinwiddie County, Nottoway County and Bristol
  • 5 new cases in Appomattox County, Botetourt County, Prince Edward County, Caroline County, King George County, Fredericksburg and Amelia county
  • 4 new cases in Danville, Hopewell, Southampton County, Tazewell County, Orange County, Waynesboro, Buena Vista, Lunenburg County and Madison County
  • 3 new cases in Prince George County, King William County, Culpeper County, Greene County, Rockbridge County, Pulaski County and Charles City County
  • 2 new cases in Petersburg, Grayson County, Manassas, Louisa County, Fluvanna County, New Kent County and Sussex County
  • 1 new case in Westmoreland County, Richmond County, Franklin, Buchanan County, Charlotte County, James City County, Nelson County, Dickenson County, Floyd County, Manassas Park, Buckingham County, Poquoson, Craig County, Middlesex County, Accomack County, Giles County, Emporia, Surry County, Alleghany County, Fairfax, Northampton County and Bath County
  • Powhatan County, Goochland County, Clarke County, Patrick County and Rappahannock County have all decreased by one case
  • Pittsylvania County has decreased by two cases

As of Friday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,528,225 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
