Boones Mill alcohol sale approval expected to bring in more business

Voters approved referendum last week

BOONES MILL, Va. – Selling liquor by the drink is now legal in Boones Mill.

Last week, 75 percent of voters approved a referendum legalizing the sale of mixed alcoholic beverages by restaurants.

That's good news for Franklin County Distilleries, which tried to open its tasting room right off Route 220 months ago. Now, they'll finally be able to open their doors.

But town leaders say the economic impact stretches beyond that.

"The referendum result also allows other restaurants, or hotel bars, for example, to open up in town, and I think that positions the town very well to serve both residents and tourists as we continue development here," Boones Mill Town Manager Matt Lawless said.

Franklin County Distilleries now plans to open in mid-December.
