Two young children recovering after truck hits them in Walmart parking lot

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. – Two young children are recovering after a crash that happened two days before Christmas. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said a truck hit them in the parking lot of the Dublin Walmart on Saturday afternoon. 

Joy Presley and her family were on their way home to Woodstock, Virginia, and stopped at the Walmart when she said they watched the crash unfold. 

"I saw the truck," Presley said. "My son said, 'Well he needs to slow down. There's people behind him.' We both kind of looked and turned around and my son yelled at the people that got hit, but it was already too late." 

Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies said William Hinkle Jr., of Dublin, got out of his truck and took off running. It was right after that they said the truck started to roll, hitting two small kids and two cars before stopping. 

"It was very frightening and very confusing, because in the midst of it I'm thinking, 'Why would somebody go that fast backward down the parking lot?' And then to realize there was no one in the vehicle ... " Presley said. 

Presley said she's been praying for the family ever since. 

At last check, both children are recovering at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The family's church posted on Facebook that the children suffered cuts and bruises but are expected to make a full recovery. 

Presley said the truck driver appeared "very upset" after the crash. He's now in the New River Valley Regional Jail on a reckless driving charge.
