Man wanted for beating, arson arrested in Roanoke

Omarr Martin is accused of beating a 70-year-old, setting fire to his apartment

ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke police say they’ve arrested a man accused of tying up a 70-year-old man, stealing money from him and setting his apartment on fire.

Police say they arrested Omarr Romance-Lomax Martin, 20, of Roanoke on Aug. 18. They arrested him in Roanoke without any issues. He's facing malicious wounding and arson charges after police were looking for him for 10 days.

The victim, Clarence “Skip” Kakert, says he thought he was going to die when Martin starting beating him and asking for money Aug. 8. He says Martin was threatening to kill him before binding his hands and feet and setting his Colonial Avenue apartment on fire.

Kakert was in a hospital for two days and is expected to recover. Because of the damage from the fire, he will not be able to return to his apartment.
