Salvation Army in serious need of toys for Angel Families

ROANOKE, Va. –

The Salvation Army is in serious need of toy donations as part of its Angel Tree program for kids this Christmas.

With only one day left to donate to the Angel Tree, organizers are hoping the community will step up in the next 24 hours.

“It's a blessing. My kids are going to be happy on Christmas,” Amanda Ervin, a mother of three children, whose family is an Angel Family, said.

Ervin received hand-delivered presents from FedEx on Friday morning.

Hers is one of 1,642 Angel Families in need of toys for their children this Christmas.

Unfortunately, there are still nearly 1,000 Angel Families that still need presents.

“If they have taken an angel off of the tree, get the things that are on the wish list,” Thomas Barnette, special events coordinator, at The Salvation Army of the Roanoke Valley, said.

Despite the high number of angel families remaining, Barnette is optimistic.

"The people of the Roanoke Valley are going to do what they always do. They're going to pull through, and they're going to show up and show out, and make sure that all the kids are taken care of, so we can make sure that every kid wakes up on Christmas morning with a big smile on their face,” Barnette said.

Drop-off sites are Valleyview Mall, Tanglewood Mall and the Angel Tree Distribution Center in Salem.
