Averett University begins 10 year, multi-million dollar renovation plan

Averett kicked off first phase Thursday morning

DANVILLE, Va. – The first phase of a campaign to raise money for major renovations at Averett University is underway.

Thursday morning, the university kicked off its "Campaign For Main."

The goal is to have $4.8 million raised by the summer of 2018 in order to renovate Main Hall, the campus's signature building.

An anonymous donor has pledged $2.5 million to get the campaign started.

Over the next 10 years, the university plans to spend $28 million to renovate all of the residence halls and expand the campus.

"This main step is just the first step along our path that will combine living and learning in a lasting way," said Averett University President Dr. Tiffany Franks.

The renovations to Main Hall are expected to be complete by the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
