UPDATE: Danville murder suspect told police he intended to shoot man in the head

DANVILLE, Va.UPDATE

An arrest warrant gives new insight into an argument that turned deadly in Danville. 

Jerry Wilson was shot once before he died, according to the warrant. Herbert Snipes told police he shot his neighbor with a .22-caliber rifle. 

The warrant indicates that Snipes told investigators that he intended to shoot Wilson in the head because he wanted to kill him.

Police found Snipes inside his home on Cabell St.

An argument between two neighbors in Danville turned deadly Wednesday.

According to police, Herbert Snipes, 74, shot his neighbor, 61-year-old Jerry Wilson.

It happened around 11:30 Wednesday morning in the 500 block of Cabell Street.

Wilson was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say Snipes is the one who called the police.

"A caller actually called and said that he had shot someone over a neighbor dispute. When officers got here, they did discover a victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds," said Danville Police Lieutenant Mike Wallace.

Snipes is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit murder.
