PEARISBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) Giles Coach Jeff Williams and his 2A perennial state power Spartans are coming off a 12-1 season, where they were derailed by a magical Glenvar run as the Highlanders rolled to the school's first state football title. Giles is only two years removed from a perfect 15-0 state title season of their own--the program's 4th.

The Spartans single wing was humming right along at today's scrimmage against the Titans of Hidden Valley at Bogle Field in Roanoke.   In true Giles tradition, line play was disciplined and the three-headed backfield has speed to burn.  All-in-all coach Williams was pleased with where his team is-with this being mid-August..

"Well, I'm seeing a lot of good things I'm saying a great effort I'm saying is playing hard and I'm seeing a lot of good technique stuff out there in the first scrimmage preseason everybody's got a long ways to go this time of year we've been fortunate and blessed the past several years to have speed and we got a little bit of it back this year still so that's always a good thing for your football team," explains the Giles Coach.

Williams is entering his 8th season at the helm of the Spartans. Giles opens its season on August 28th when they host the Blacksburg Bruins.
