Fleming girls beat Patrick Henry 32-30 in 5D Sub-Region action

Colonels will host North Stafford in the Girls Region 5D Quarterfinals on Wednesday

ROANOKE, Va. – On Monday night, the William Fleming and Patrick Henry girls basketball teams faced off for the third time this season--this time with Region 5D seeding implications involved. William Fleming won the first matchup of the season by two points. Patrick Henry returned the favor two weeks ago winning by six.

Early on, it appeared the Patriots would run away with this one with ease after jumping to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter. But by halftime, William Fleming had settled in and found itself fighting back. The Colonels outscored the Patriots 13-4 to make it a 15-15 ball game at halftime.

The second half was a back and forth contest and came down to the wire with both teams hitting clutch shots. But none were bigger than the last shot. With under 10 seconds on the clock, Amari Worsham drove to the basket and hit the game-winning shot as time expired. It capped off a 21 point performance for the freshman as William Fleming won 32-30.

The Colonels will host North Stafford in the Girls Region 5D Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Patrick Henry will go on the road to face Briar Woods in the same round of the Region 5D playoffs.
