NASCAR Late Model Stock car racing returns to Martinsville

The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 race is Saturday

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The first night race at Martinsville Speedway is just days away. The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 is this weekend and it will be the debut of the tracks new LED lights.

The race is knows as the biggest, richest, most prestigious NASCAR late model race in the country. The winner takes home $25,000 and a grandfather clock. Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell and other representatives, as well as drivers, came to Blue 5 Restaurant in Roanoke Tuesday to talk to media about the event.

"I don't know of anything that we have done in the 70 years of Martinsville Speedway that is energized all of us as much as these lights and that goes for the fans, for the competitors, for the media, everybody is so excited about it and it's special," said Campbell.

"I made history there a few years ago being the youngest female ever there, so to keep going back and to hopefully keep getting better and better is our hope and what can happen," said driver Macy Causey, who will race this weekend.

Practice and pole qualifying is Friday, the feature race is Saturday at 8 pm.
