Total Action for Progress is working to bring neighborhoods together by going Christmas caroling.  The organization is working with the Melrose and Hurt Park neighborhood alliances.  The group is asking for canned food donations to hand out in the neighborhoods.  

Angels of Assisi will take part in a "Free the Shelters" event his weekend.  All adoption fees will be waived as part of a national campaign by PRAI Beauty.  The program has helped get more than 1,500 animals adopted across the country.

The Vinton Moose Family Center holds its annual Breakfast with Santa for kids with special needs.  Around 125 children and teachers in Roanoke County Schools will be served a pancake breakfast and get to meet the jolly old elf.

Dickens of a Christmas returns to downtown Roanoke this weekend.  Do some shopping with vendors who are set up.  You can also play in the snow at the Snow Zone and bring your pet and enter it into the pet costume contest.  Activities run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
