For Mattel, this holiday toy shopping season, the last of the decade, has been all about the "big brands" and "big franchises," according to CEO Ynon Kreiz. That is the case especially for the toymaker's iconic Barbie and Hot Wheels lines. New additions to the Barbie brand, which launched with the Barbie Dream House in 1962, include the Barbie Dream Plane and Judge Barbie, which Kreiz said is made to empower girls.
