Earlier Sunday, Prine won two posthumous Grammys for best American roots song and best American roots performance, a year after receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys. Carlile told The Associated Press that it didn't bother her to be performing without an audience at the pandemic-restricted Grammys because "this time I’m just performing for John Prine. The Highwomen, John Prine earn Americana awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Highwomen won three awards, including album, song and duo/group of the year, at the Americana Honors and Awards. The late John Prine was given artist of the year honors. The Americana Music Association announced the winners online on Tuesday this year after their awards show, normally held in Nashville, Tennessee, was cancelled because of the pandemic. Prine, who died in April due to complications from COVID-19, was a titan among the Americana music community, having won artist of the year three times previously and received a lifetime achievement award in 2003. The band is also nominated for three Grammys this year, including album of the year and record of the year.

Artists sing social anthems for United Nations anniversary

That sentiment is something that Skip Marley, a third-generation musician and grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley, has grown up knowing as well. “Music is music. The event will raise money for the Playing for Change Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund, Sankofa, Silkroad and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. It’s a spiritual experience to sing his grandfather’s songs, Marley said. “Those are the songs I first hear and the songs I first sing,” said Marley.

Brandi Carlile memoir 'Broken Horses' coming in April

NEW YORK – Grammy winner Brandi Carlile has a memoir coming in April. Her publisher calls the book an “evocative and piercingly honest” journey through the life that has shaped her “very raw art.”Crown announced Thursday that Carlile's book is called “Broken Horses,” and that Carlile herself will read the audio edition. The 39-year-old singer-songwriter-instrumentalist is known for such songs as “The Story” and “The Joke" and for her album “By the Way, I Forgive You.”According to Crown, Carlile will write about her “dysfunctional but loving family,” her years of “sleepless tours” and her collaborations with everyone from Elton John to Tanya Tucker.

Thomas Rhett, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Combs top CMT noms

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ashley McBryde, Dan + Shay, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Combs, Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett top the 2020 CMT Music Awards nominations with three each. In nominations announced Wednesday for the pandemic-delayed show, 14 videos are vying for the top prize of video of the year. The fan-voted show will air on CMT and other networks on Oct. 21 with outdoor performances. The Highwomen, a group made up of Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires, also got their first nomination for group video. Electronic producer and DJ Marshmello also earned a nomination in collaborative video for the crossover hit “One Thing Right" with Kane Brown.

The Americana Music Association said the winners will be announced during its awards show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sept. 16, but said plans are still unfolding for the show. Nashville artists help out on stage and off after tornadoes

British singer-songwriter Yola got to work immediately, helping organize the concert in less than a week. Performers included Old Crow Medicine Show, Sheryl Crow, Dan Auerbach, Jason Isbell, Soccer Mommy, Brothers Osborne and Ashley McBryde. Dualtone Records' Nashville office was directly hit, as well as a popular club called The Basement East. Just as the town's artists donated their time and money to help others after the flood in 2010, already many donations are pouring in.

Dan + Shay, Old Dominion, Maren Morris nab top ACM noms

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Grammy-winning duo Dan + Shay lead the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards with six nominations for Dan Smyers and five for Shay Mooney and helped pop star Justin Bieber earn his first-ever ACM noms. Each member is nominated twice for single of the year as artists and producers of “One Man Band.”Others earning five nominations include Thomas Rhett, producer Dan Huff and Grammy winner Maren Morris. 1 country song of 2019, Morgan Wallen's “Whiskey Glasses," eligible. Tanya Tucker ‘beyond shocked’ by Grammy nominations

NASHVILLE, TN – The first time Tanya Tucker was nominated for a Grammy Award, it was 1972, it was for her breakout country hit, “Delta Dawn,” and she was just a teen. Now more than 45 years later, Tucker finds herself nominated for four Grammys, including song of the year for “Bring My Flowers Now,” competing against the likes of Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. I’m very, very surprised,” Tucker told The Associated Press on Wednesday morning after the nominations were announced. The tune has Tucker reflecting on the long shadow of the miles she's traveled, and the regrets and joys of a life well lived. “I remember my dad telling me, maybe even before I got started, he told me, ‘Tanya, the biggest song you’re gonna have is the one you write yourself,’” Tucker said.

Carrie Underwood, who co-hosted and performed during Wednesday’s show, was the lone female nominee in the Entertainer of the Year category. The Country Music Association Awards have kicked off with a performance by some of country’s biggest stars, including Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. The show featured only female performers for its opening number, with Loretta Lynn in the audience getting a shout out. Dolly Parton makes a surprise appearance at Newport Folk Festival

Parton made a special appearance during the day's final set of the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. To close out a set dedicated to girl power, the women joined Parton in performing her 1980 anthem "9 to 5." The Newport Folk Festival has featured collaborative shows like this before. At the 2018 festival, Jon Batiste -- of Jon Batiste and Stay Human -- curated a set dedicated to the civil rights movement.
