Roanoke City Council approved four new full-time positions targeting transportation, tourism, sustainability, and grant management. They come with a price of more than $500,000 or half a million added to the city budget.

Lynchburg’s city budget for fiscal year 2026 is officially in place, totaling more than $200 million. But while the vote is in, the work isn’t over.

The Lynchburg City Council is running out of time to finalize their city budget, which is due by July 1st. Previous public hearings and city council meetings concerning the budget have been contentious as different solutions and answers have been offered up, such as changes to the car tax and real estate property tax rate.

Roanoke City faces what the city manager calls a “very tight budget year” and says tough choices will have to be made.
