Search of landfill for suburban Detroit teen's remains ends

Police have ended a five-month search at a rural landfill for the remains of a 17-year-old suburban Detroit girl who disappeared in early January. Investigators have said they believe Zion Foster's body was placed in a dumpster, which later was emptied into a garbage truck and taken about 40 miles (65 kilometers) northeast of Detroit to Lenox Township. Searchers began combing through debris and garbage at the end of May at Pine Tree Acres landfill but came up empty even after going through 3,500 truckloads — 7,500 tons (6,800 metric tons) — of material from Michigan and Canada.

Man charged in fatal shooting at Detroit banquet hall

A 30-year-old man has been charged in a drive-by shooting at an unlicensed Detroit banquet hall that left another man dead and five people wounded. Samuel Tipton was expected to be arraigned Saturday on one count of first-degree murder, five counts of assault with intent to murder and gun charges, the Wayne County prosecutor’s office said Friday. NFL rallies around Patriots' White after father's death

– Patriots running back James White says he is having trouble processing the sudden death of his father, but is finding comfort in celebrating his son's first birthday. I hope I can be as good of a father to you as my father was to my brother and I!” White wrote. James White found out about the crash prior to the Patriots' matchup at Seattle on Sunday night and was inactive for the game. In the days since, his teammates and scores of players and coaches around the NFL have voiced condolences for White both publicly and on social media. But Patriots teammate Matt Slater said everyone understands that football is secondary for White right now.

Seahawks stuff Newton on final play, beat Patriots 35-30

Collier stuffed Cam Newton at the 1-yard line on the final play, and the Seattle Seahawks held off the New England Patriots 35-30 on Sunday night. But Newton took over the final minutes and yet another Seahawks-Patriots matchup was decided in the closing moments on a play snapped at the 1. On the final play, Newton tried to run power to the left, but was upended by Collier in the biggest play of his young career. The entire night in a normal setting would have left CenturyLink Field shaking with delirium, especially after the final play. Newton found Harry but was stopped at the 1 and New England used its final timeout, setting the stage for the final play.

Belichick: Playing multiple QBs an option this season

Death penalty sought in slaying of 2 Mississippi officers

- A Mississippi prosecutor confirms he will seek the death penalty for a man indicted in the 2018 shooting deaths of two police officers. Marquis Flowers, 26, on Tuesday made his first appearance in state court since being indicted on capital murder charges, and he pleaded not guilty. District Attorney Dee Bates said after Tuesday's hearing that he will pursue the death penalty. Harrington testified that Flowers had already been wounded by gunfire before officers arrived, but police found nobody else at the scene. Flowers' parole was revoked after the Brookhaven officers were killed and he is in custody in the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

PGA Tour said in a statement that those injured had been struck by debris from the tree. The third round of the PGA Tour was taking place at the East Lake Golf Club Saturday when the incident took place.
