Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors has voted to keep the university’s living-learning communities intact, ending months of speculation over their future on campus.

In Blacksburg, Monday afternoon, approximately 40 Virginia Tech students and residents protested the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors’ decision to roll back DEI programs, specifically the dissolution of the Ujima and Lavender House Living Learning Communities.

Virginia Tech (VT) announced in September that it would no longer be offering two of their Living-Learning Communities (LLC) starting in the Fall of 2026. According to the university’s website, the Lavender House LLC is geared toward the university’s LGBTQ+ students. The Ujima LLC is for students pursuing Africana studies.
