No. 21 Pitt holds off No. 24 Louisville 23-20

Louisville wide receiver Tutu Atwell (1) can't make a catch as Pittsburgh defensive back A.J. 24 Louisville 23-20 on Saturday. “They played fast, they played physical.”And they played exactly the way they knew they would play against the Cardinals. Pitt: The offense remains a bit of a mixed bag but the defense should give the Panthers a chance to win week in and week out. Pitt: Even with teams from conferences currently not playing being allowed into the polls this week, expect the Panthers to at least stay at 21 or perhaps even rise a bit.

(AP Photo/Richard Shiro, File)This college football season is already so odd that it’s unclear whether this is Week 1 or Week 2. 1 Clemson and Trevor Lawrence begin their season at Wake Forest, a solid opportunity for the star quarterback and preseason Heisman front-runner to launch a campaign. The Sooners' new starter is the first non-transfer to begin the season as QB1 since before Trevor Knight in 2014. One coach who could really use a win to start this season, though, is Les Miles of Kansas.

Cunningham carried 11 times for 97 yards including a 48-yarder overshadowed by an even bigger play that put Louisville ahead for good. Bryce Perkins' 4-yard scoring pass to Tavares Kelly made it 28-21 with 21 seconds left, and Virginia recovered the onside kick two seconds later at the Louisville 41. Hawkins also had a 2-yard TD run as the Cardinals outgained Virginia 360-311 on a cool, soggy day.
