The last surviving member of The Monkees, a rock band that formed in 1966, is suing the FBI. Micky Dolenz wants the government to hand over any files on him and his deceased bandmates.

Heavily redacted files from 1967, first reported on by Rolling Stone, appear to show the FBI was investigating the group for allegedly spreading anti-Vietnam messaging during their concerts.

The 77-year-old, the only surviving member of the madcap made-for-TV quartet, is on tour, with a setlist of songs he "can't not do."

Nesmith, who had undergone quadruple bypass surgery in 2018, died at home Friday of natural causes, his family said in a statement. Nesmith was a struggling singer-songwriter in September 1966 when “The Monkees” television debut turned him and fellow band members Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and David Jones into overnight rock stars.

With the group, the singer and guitarist had a string of hits and starred in a TV sitcom in the 1960s.
