Peyton Manning, Charles Woodson top Hall of Fame candidates

More than two decades ago Charles Woodson beat out Peyton Manning for a prestigious college award. (AP Photo/Jack Dempsey, File)More than two decades ago, Charles Woodson beat out Peyton Manning for a prestigious college award. On Saturday, they likely will share an even more impressive football honor: entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. When everybody is seeing it through the same eyes, it is a great way to play a football game.

AB says he's grateful for 2nd chance provided by Buccaneers

(AP Photo/Julio Cortez)TAMPA, Fla. โ€“ Antonio Brown says heโ€™s grateful to be back in the NFL, let alone preparing to play in the Super Bowl. โ€œI just think it was my only chance to be able to prove โ€” not only to the doubters, but myself โ€” Iโ€™m still a high-end football player, still love the game,โ€ Brown said. Arians initially opposed the idea of adding Brown, saying during the offseason that the receiver wasnโ€™t a good fit for the Bucs. He's the most accomplished wide receiver Brady has had to throw to since the Patriots had Hall of Famer Randy Moss, who also had a reputation of being difficult to play with, more than a decade ago. โ€œHe has a great love for the game, is a real perfectionist about how he plays, how he takes care of himself.

Brady, talented Buccaneers playmakers developing chemistry

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (13) celebrates his touchdown against the New Orleans Saints during the first half of an NFL divisional round playoff football game, Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, in New Orleans. Don't forget Antonio Brown, who joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at midseason and has contributed to the teamโ€™s run to Sundayโ€™s NFC championship game at Green Bay. Then thereโ€™s Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson, a couple of late-round draft picks roughly half the age of the 43-year-old quarterback. The more that Iโ€™ve been around Mike, Chris, Antonio, Scooter (Miller), Tyler, Mick (Jaydon Mickens) โ€” the better it gets,โ€ Brady said. Tyler makes a great catch,โ€ Arians added.

Week 17 scoring bonanza caps record-setting season

(AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh)The Week 17 scoring bonanza provided the perfect finish to a record-setting season on offense. Teams combined for 100 touchdowns in the final week of the season for the second-most in NFL history in a single week behind only the 104 scored in Week 14 of the 2013 season. He became the first player with at least 4,500 yards passing, 35 TD passes and five TD runs in a single season. The Browns joined the 2012 Colts (minus-30) as the only teams to win 11 games in a season when they were outscored. EVEN STEVENIn a bit of a statistical oddity, the Vikings gained the exact same number of yards this season as they allowed: 6,292.

No preseason, no problem: NFL rookies shine in strange year

Young and Jefferson made the Pro Bowl, and surely more rookies would have joined them as alternates at the leagueโ€™s now-canceled all-star game. โ€œItโ€™s crazy unusual for a rookie, I think, to have the type of leadership that Chase has, genuine leadership,โ€ Washington quarterback Alex Smith said. โ€œI think a lot of young guys, especially high picks, I think you feel pressure to do it some way or somehow. โ€œTalk about a rookie coming in, starting every game and just being focused,โ€ Browns Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio said of Wills. โ€œWeโ€™re growing and weโ€™re starting to get a hang of the game,โ€ said Dolphins right tackle Robert Hunt, a second-round pick and one of six Miami rookies starting on offense.

NFC East stages late-season turnaround

(AP Photo/Chris Szagola)The NFC East is no longer the laughingstock division in the NFL. In all, NFC East teams have an 8-5 record the past four weeks when playing games outside the division, the most wins of any division in that span. For the season, NFC East teams are 10-23-1 (.309 winning percentage) when playing teams outside the division, the worst in the NFL this season. The NFC East is actually outperforming its mark from last season when its teams went 12-28 outside the division. With two wins in the final six-non division games this season, the NFC East can top that mark.

The Cowboys, Panthers and Jaguars (1-11), who lost their 11th straight game, are a combined 8-27. Chase McLaughlin even had a chance to win it with a 62-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter that fell short.
