Instead, Republicans added to their House ranks with more conservatives, increasing the potential to override vetoes by Democratic Gov.

Trump's tweets Monday about the RNC, planned for Charlotte, come just two days after the North Carolina recorded its largest daily increase in positive cases yet. A draft of the bill, authored by Republican State Rep. John Torbett of Gaston and circulated last week by North Carolina Republican Party chairman Michael Whatley, calls for convention events in Charlotte to be held at full capacity, just as Trump had demanded from Cooper. The bill would require attendees to complete both pre-attendance and daily health surveys and have their temperatures taken prior to entry. Torbett's bill is unlikely to garner support among Democratic state lawmakers, who are concerned about reopening the state too soon and holding mass gatherings.
Trump looks elsewhere after GOP convention spat with NC gov

They agreed to continue talking about ways to have a safe convention in Charlotte. But Cooper made clear to Trump that those conditions would likely be impossible to accommodate. The RNC's leader, Ronna McDaniel accused Cooper of dragging his feet on giving them guidance for proceeding with convention plans. Tennessee's Bill Lee said GOP officials were coming to scout Nashville on Thursday.
Trump says GOP is pulling convention from North Carolina

Trump's convention demand comes amid Charlotte virus surge
Trump's tweets Monday about the RNC, planned for Charlotte, come just two days after the North Carolina recorded its largest daily increase in positive cases yet. Asked about Trumps tweets threatening to move the convention, Cooper said Tuesday hes not surprised at anything that happens on Twitter, without mentioning the president by name. Republican governors in Georgia and Florida say they would welcome the convention if North Carolina falls through. Republican projected to win in closely watched NC special election
Harris decided not to run again in the special election. The special election in that Republican-leaning district was called after GOP Rep. Walter Jones, who had represented it since 1995, died in February. Trump cast the special election, and the 2020 presidential election, as a fight for the status quo, describing Democrats as the "America-hating left." The President held a now infamous rally earlier this summer in North Carolina, where the crowd in Greenville chanted, "Send her back!" State election officials have been working to ensure that voters can reach the polls.
What to watch in Tuesday's North Carolina special elections
State investigators' long inquest drew national attention and, after a dramatic February finale, the North Carolina election board voted to re-run the race. In addition to the Bishop-McCready race, voters in the state's 3rd Congressional District will likely be choosing between Republican state Rep. Greg Murphy and Democratic former Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas. Here's what to watch for in North Carolina. Trump has leaned on that message in the run-up to the election, tweeting in August that McCready "likes the 'Squad' more than North Carolina." The Republicans, especially Trump, will take a pair of victories in North Carolina and -- if history is any guide -- celebrate them as a crushing defeat for Democrats.
