It’s been more than 50 years since a passenger train last stopped in Bedford County, but new funding could bring Amtrak service back to town. Bedford received nearly $1.5 million in federal grant money to fund environmental studies and preliminary design work for a potential passenger rail station.

The Virginia Breeze announced that they have seen a 25% increase in riders in March 2025 when compared to March 2024. This is their highest number of monthly passengers they’ve seen, at 8,049. The Velley Flyer route also reached its highest reported number of passengers at 4,385 in March.

On Wednesday morning at about 10 a.m., enCircle leadership, staff and others are set to unveil a new, specialized transportation van, funded by federal grants from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
