Walmart has ended a partnership with Capital One that made the banking company the exclusive issuer of Walmart’s consumer credit cards.

The Justice Department is suing Walmart, alleging the company unlawfully dispensed controlled substances through its pharmacies, helping to fuel the opioid crisis in America, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The civil complaint being filed Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 points to the role Walmarts pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and by unlawfully distributing controlled substances to the pharmacies during the height of the opioid crisis, the person said. (AP Photo/Cedar Attanasio)WASHINGTON – The Justice Department sued Walmart on Tuesday, accusing it of fueling the nation’s opioid crisis by pressuring its pharmacies to fill even potentially suspicious prescriptions for the powerful painkillers. The civil complaint filed points to the role Walmart’s pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and Walmart's own responsibility for the allegedly illegal distribution of controlled substances to the pharmacies at the height of the opioid crisis. The suit said that only later did Walmart allow pharmacists to do blanket refusals for these suspect practices.

But analysts are optimistic about TikTok's potential for helping Walmart crack the online shopping nut. Walmart could make TikTok into an extension of its sales machine, helping advertisers, creators and others sell products. TikTok users swiping through and buying as part of their experience on the app might not even know of a Walmart connection. Walmart could also use TikTok to promote key sellers from its online marketplace, which its trying to develop to rival Amazon, said KeyBanc analysts. The lines are blurring between traditional shopping, digital shopping and social media," said UBS analyst Michael Lasser, in a research note.

There is a growing movement to replace the current state flag that has in the canton portion of the flag the design of the Civil War-era Confederate battle flag. The Confederate-themed Mississippi flag drew opposition Tuesday from two big forces in the culturally conservative state: Southern Baptists and Walmart. Walmart said it will stop displaying the Mississippi flag while the state debates whether to change the design. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, appointed a 17-member commission to study flag design in 2000 and to make recommendations to the Legislature. All of Mississippi's public universities stopped flying the state flag years ago because of the Confederate symbol.

RAONOKE, Va. – Starting Saturday, Walmart will begin limiting how many people can be inside its stores. Stores will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly 20 percent of a store’s capacity. For clarity, we reached out to Walmart’s corporate offices and learned that these restriction’s are based upon the building’s size. Once a store reaches its capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a “1-out-1-in” basis. Once inside a many stores, patrons will be limited to one-way movement to help customers avoid coming into close contact with each other.

But the company plans to still sell the controversial video games -- and guns. Walmart has previously promoted violent video games in its stores with displays that let customers play the games. Although some public officials, including President Donald Trump, have pointed to violent video games as a cause of the rise in gun violence, numerous studies have found no link between the games and actual violent behavior. Walmart does not sell assault-style rifles, nor does it sell handguns outside of Alaska.

Fights regularly break out at Walmarts across the nation. Crime at Walmart is so rampant in certain cities that police departments say their resources are being stretched thin responding to calls. "On average, it is once or twice that the police are at a Walmart a day, especially in our city, one officer told Inside Edition. There are 16 Walmarts in Jacksonville, Florida, and in 2015 there were a whopping 5,298 calls. "This is really good because it can go anywhere that they want, he told Inside Edition.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg City Schools is collecting supplies at both Walmarts in Lynchburg this weekend. School leaders say their goal is to fill an entire school bus. Some people were seen donating backpacks full of supplies Friday. The drive helps students in the area who depend on these donated supplies. Schools leaders say that if people can't make it out to either Walmart this weekend, they'll still take supplies throughout the school year.
