Pulaski County residents have a limited-time chance to leave a permanent mark on history. County officials announced Tuesday that a grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation will fund a community-driven mosaic mural commemorating Pulaski County’s role in the American Revolution — and anyone can pick up a paintbrush and be part of it.

The University of Virginias racial equity task force is recommending the school remove a statue of a Revolutionary War general that some have criticized for its depiction of Native Americans, and replace it with an indigenous studies center. The nearly 100-year-old granite statue of Gen. George Rogers Clark depicts the military officer mounted on a stallion confronting three Native Americans while backed by armed men. Clark, the older brother of explorer William Clark, led militias against Native American tribes to take land after the war, according to historians. A final decision on removing or replacing the statue would be made by the universitys board of visitors. Spokesman Wes Hester said Ryan would review the plans and discuss the report with the board in September.

Tyler Merritt, is releasing "Betsy Ross" flag t-shirts after Nike decided to recall shoes featuring the same design. The special-edition Air Max 1s featured the "Betsy Ross" flag, a design created during the American Revolution with a circle of 13 white stars for the 13 original states. Nine Line Apparel, which calls itself a company "by patriots for patriots," has gone after Nike and Kaepernick before. We say just stand -- stand for your beliefs and for your country," he said.
