Severe Thunderstorm Watch - Cancelled

Stay safe and weather aware with us through the afternoon

This Severe Thunderstorm Watch lasts through the afternoon, but the greatest threat of storms is before 3:00 PM

ROANOKE, Va. – Just before 2:00 PM the SPC cancelled the watch for counties in our area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch stays in effect this afternoon until 6:00 PM today (July 9th). Showers and storms are starting to develop with enough energy to create damaging wind gusts and some hail.

The Level 2 risk is limited to the eastern edge of Southside

Southside counties included in the watch are most likely to get some severe weather. The best chance for storms is before 2:00 PM, but some damaging winds can develop later than that.

Wind is the greatest threat with these storms. High winds can still break trees and damage homes so stay indoors if a warning is issued.

There is not much energy for hail to form, and conditions are not favorable for tornadoes. The high winds can cause branches to break and even power outages, so stay safe through the afternoon.

Safely send any hail or damage pictures to us at wsls.com/pins

If you have pictures of hail, rain, clouds, or damage send them to our Pin It page. Stay safe as you take those pictures. If you have images from after the storms roll through we would love to see those as well.
