Current wind conditions
ROANOKE, Va. – Wow, it has certainly been a gusty day across the region. Reports show peak wind gusts reaching up to 60-70 mph in Grayson County. Portions of the Highlands had gusts over 50 mph, while the vast majority of us had winds of up to 30-45 mph. This windy weather has led to brush fires due to low humidity. The good news: beneficial rain is headed in our direction.
Upcoming rain predictions
Grab your umbrellas, as needed rain is forecasted to start very late Thursday and continue through Friday night. Friday looks to be the wettest day over the next week or so. The New River Valley is expected to see showers first, possibly before sunset on Thursday and then rain will overspread the region Thursday night, ending Friday night. By the weekend, you’ll likely enjoy drier conditions with more sunshine. Both weekend days will see a nice mix of sun and clouds. And the dry weather will continue into early next week.
Temperature predictions
Although rain chances will increase late week, temperatures will stay above average, reaching the middle 50s on Thursday and Friday. Behind that cold front we will turn cooler this weekend, as highs will fall into the low-to-mid 50s on Saturday and into the upper 40s to near 50 on Sunday. But we will warm things right back up again early next week. The 60s could return as soon as Monday!
