Roanoke, VA – Fall officially begins on Monday, but it’s not going to feel like fall quite yet.
Temperatures today get into the mid to upper 80s with some isolated showers into the Highlands. Rainfall won’t be all that significant, but with drought conditions present, any rainfall will be helpful.
We get a tad cooler next week with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s beginning Sunday. Those cooler temperatures are going to be coming along with some widespread rainfall, that could potentially put a major dent in these drought conditions.
As for the tropics, Tropical Storm Gabrielle is still churning in the Atlantic, and is expected to become a hurricane by Tuesday. That storm will turn back out to sea, and poses no threat to the United States.
There is a separate tropical wave off the coast of Africa that we’re also watching. That wave has a 20% chance of formation over the next 7 days as it moves into more favorable conditions.
