The Virginia Commonwealth Games are back on this year with at least seven different sporting events set to happen at Liberty University in Lynchburg.

Virginia Amateur Sports will announce details about this year’s Virginia Commonwealth Games. The nonprofit organization will discuss plans for the opening ceremony, sports information and more. The Games will take place at Liberty University starting July 23.

The Virginia Commonwealth Games wrapped up with events such as baseball, softball, and sand volleyball. Its awesome playing these teams and meeting teams from all around, said Aaron Crummett, whose team traveled from Harrisonburg to play in the Commonwealth Games. Many of the Commonwealth Games athletes are in high school, and the Virginia High School League is on the verge of deciding how their school seasons will play out. Crummett and Jones said their kids are recovering from already losing a high school season because of the pandemic. Jones hopes the VHSL makes a decision that will allow Commonwealth Games athletes to step back on the field.

LYNCHBURG, Va. The Virginia Commonwealth Games is a family tradition for the ODaniel father-daughter duo. Im here for the fireworks, shes here to represent for her softball team, Matt ODaniel said. I think the first year she did it, they had a softball practice and I was here preparing for the fireworks, ODaniel said. But the memories the ODaniels are making there, means a lot more than wins or losses. Me and my dad really work together a lot, Mattie said.

We are pleased and excited to announce our special guest, Olympic Gold Medalist for 2020 is Francena McCorory. Francena is a Virginia native and past participant of the Virginia Commonwealth Games. Another exciting addition for this year, is the Live Streaming of the All Star Baseball Tournament games on Saturday and Sunday (provided by Liberty University). There are 3 events kicking off this weekend Adult Softball (Peaksview Park), Pickleball (Liberty University) and All Star Baseball (Liberty University).
