Animal cruelty investigation underway after two dogs found dragging chains

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Animal control officers picked up two dogs described as severely neglected, dragging metal chains and possibly abandoned.

Lynchburg Animal Control is investigating what may have happened to the animals, calling it an animal cruelty crime.

The dogs were found November 6 around 11:30 a.m. Animal Control responded to the area of Old Forest Rd. and Acorn Hill for a report of two dogs running at large.

The first dog was described as a male, black pit bull with a white stripe on its nose, neck, and chest. The dog was wearing a blue collar. The second dog was described as a female, black pit bull with a white patch on its chest. The dog appeared to have had a recent litter of puppies and walked with a limp, due to a previous injury on her right leg. The dog was wearing an orange collar.

Animal control officers are trying to identify the owners of the dogs.
