ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Centra's Lynchburg General Hospital and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital are now recognized as one of Virginia's 10 best hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report's latest hospital rankings.

The site notes that Carilion performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals in 4 adult specialties. The 624 bed hospital had more than 36- thousand admissions last year.
It performed 12,702 annual inpatient and 18,425 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 76,117 visits.The site notes that Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is also a
teaching hospital.
According to their website, Centra are labeled as "high performing" in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease care, heart bypass surgery, heart failure care and knee replacements. The report says high patient volume was a significant factor in each case.
According to survey data for the latest year used for the ranking, 99, 564 patients visited the hospital's emergency department. LGH had more than 31,000 admissions and physicians performed more than 15-thousand surgeries.
