 ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS) -

The Roanoke County School Board met in closed session on Tuesday to begin the process of reviewing applications for the next superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools.  In total, 19 individuals completed applications for the superintendent's position out of 25 individuals who expressed interest.

Here are some overall statistics about the applicants:

  • 13 men and 6 women
  • 15 applications from Virginia, 4 from out of state (2 from NC, 1 from Co. and 1 from Ga.)
  • 10 applicants are current or former school superintendents
  • 4 are current or former assistant/deputy superintendents
  • 2 are central office administrators
  • 1 is a current or former principal/building level administrator
  • 2 applicants currently hold or have held other school positions.

"As we move forward, we are going to keep the public informed about the selection process," said Roanoke County School Board Chairman Drew Barrineau.  "The board would like to thank everyone who applied and we look forward to the next step as we search for the next leader of Roanoke County Public Schools," Barrineau added.
