Fire destroys Meadows of Dan Baptist Church

MEADOWS OF DAN (WSLS 10) - The Patrick County Sheriff's Office confirmed multiple crews battled a fire at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. 

The church was photographed by onlookers fully engulfed in flames Thursday afternoon. 

The owner of the Poor Farmers Market, Felecia Shelor, took pictures of the burning church from across the street. She said in a Facebook message to WSLS 10 that the loss of the church was like the loss of a family member. 

The organist at the church told WSLS 10 that the church was the third to stand on the property since 1855 and this building was was built in the 1940s and had been renovated and added onto since then. He said this event brought back memories of a local school burning several years ago. 

The organist said the church has approximately 300 parishioners. 

No injures were reported.
