Bullet nose back on 611 steam locomotive, renovations almost complete

SPENCER, N.C. (WSLS 10) - The 611 is scheduled to return to the Star City at the end of May.

A major step of the legendary 611 steam locomotive's restoration was completed Thursday in Spencer, North Carolina.

Workers and volunteers put the bullet nose back on the locomotive. Crews at the North Carolina Transportation Museum are putting their final touches on the Norfolk and Western class J 611, before its departure back to the Star City.

Painting is set to kick off on Monday. That process is expected to wrap up by the first week of May.
