RURAL RETREAT (WSLS 10) - A newly completed fishing pier is now open at Rural Retreat Lake in Wythe County.
The Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries (DGIF) built the pier at the 90-acre impoundment located on the southern shoreline of the lake, roughly 1,000 yards from the dam.

According to DGIF officials, the pier has been constructed in the shape of a "T" and extends approximately 69 feet from the bank and nearly 79 feet across the width of the "T."
Wythe County tourism officials said numerous improvements and renovations have been made to the park for the 2015 summer season. The campgrounds were also named one of the ‘13 Favorite Virginia Campgrounds for Summer' by the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
During the first week of June, a local high school student also caught a four-and-a-half long fish at the lake.
