DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Confederate Flag sparks debate again in Danville.
When this issued flared up in November, members of the Danville City Council determined under Virginia law, the city does not have authority to remove the flag.

In front the Danville Museum of Fine arts you can see the Confederate Flag waving in the wind. A flag some people said divides the city.
"This is one country only need one flag when we had two flags the cuts were divided between the north and the south,"Clarence Wilson a Danville resident said.
"Don't need no prejudice here," another resident named Barry Jones said.
The Heritage Preservation Association, the organization who gave the monument to the museum, they declined an on camera interview but said the flag preserves history.
It's a reminder of all those who fought during the Civil War.
Workers at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts requested city leaders to remove the flag back in the fall of last year.
"We were doing a strategic planning survey and a number of people commented the confederate flag actually hurt economic development in Danville because it made it harder to recruit people," Cara Burton with Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History said.
Vice Mayor of Danville, Gary Miller says after council consulted with the city's attorney, the council learned according to Virginia Law "Memorials for Veterans " they don't have the power to remove the flag.
"It may well take our state legislature here to change the law before we can remove the Flag,"
City Council is expected to discuss the Confederate Flag at their July 7th meeting.
