FANCY GAP (WSLS 10) - As Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer nears retirement, many are remembering the legacy of his mother, Herma Beamer.

Herma taught elementary school in Carroll County for more than 30 years.

In 2008, Frank Beamer created the Herma's Readers Foundation to honor his late mother. Since then, the foundation has raised more than $125,000 and has distributed more than 100,000 books to schools across Virginia.

Some of Herma's former students say this is just what she would have wanted.

A new Blacksburg restaurant called Highway 55 will sell "Beamer Frank" hotdogs this Saturday. One dollar from each Beamer Frank sold will go to benefit Herma's Readers.
