Icy road conditions, trees down cause widespread accidents

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Icy road conditions this morning are causing several delays.

Around 5:55 a.m. Roanoke County Police reported a stuck tractor-trailer causing a long backup on southbound Franklin Road (Route 220) at Webb Road in Roanoke County. Traffic is currently backed up over one mile. The scene was cleared about 8:30 a.m. after a difficult time from icy and slick road conditions.

Around 6:40 a.m. Roanoke County reported Northbound Franklin Road  (Route 220) is completely closed in the area of Aspen Grove. A large tree has fallen across the roadway and is also in the power lines. The area was cleared about 8:30 a.m.

Around 5:40 a.m. State Police said there were several reports of trees that fell on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County at the 135 and the 143 northbound due to ice.

Downed trees are also causing issues in Henry County. Around 7:30 a.m. a tree was spotted blocking Cascade Rd. about three miles from Morgan Ford Rd. in Henry County.
