GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Grayson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double shooting that happened Sunday morning.
According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a shooting call at 20 Terri Lane in Galax around 8:02 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found David Patton and Karen Cates with gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to the hospital.
Cates died at Baptist Medical Center while Patton was treated and released.
The suspect, Greyling "Beany" Davis, 52, is an estranged boyfriend of Cates.
There was a protective order in effect that prohibited contact between Davis and Cates.
Davis showed up at the residence around 8:00 a.m. Sunday, found Patton smoking a cigarette, and forced him into the home at gunpoint. Once inside, Davis shot both Patton and Cates.
According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, Davis was apprehended by deputies in Alleghany County, N.C. around 1:00 a.m. They say he crashed his vehicle while attempting to escape deputies.
