BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Rescue squad workers in Southwest Virginia are taking a break from their day jobs this week, but it's not much of a break.
Hundreds of EMTs are biking across the country as part of the National EMS Bike Ride.

The ride memorializes and celebrates the lives of those who serve everyday, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties and those who have died in the line of duty, according to the organization.
There are six routes across the U.S. and Canada. One group rode through Blacksburg en route to Lexington on Tuesday.
They will travel about 500 miles by Friday, where they will take part in a memorial ceremony in Arlington.
Each rider wears a dog tag with the name of an EMS worker who has passed away.
