Danville woman arrested in connection to 2013 homicide

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A Danville woman is in jail nearly three years after police say she murdered a man from Lynchburg.

Police confirmed Friday that Sharika Murphy was arrested Tuesday at her home in Danville without incident.

She is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Antwan Rucker. He was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Innkeeper Motel on Piney Forest Road at about 3 a.m. on November 9, 2013.

Murphy also faces multiple firearm and robbery charges.

As of Friday, she was being held in the Danville City Jail.

Police would not comment on how they determined Murphy was a suspect or any details pertaining to Rucker's death, only saying that the investigation is ongoing.

Police also would not comment about whether Murphy is the only suspect or if there are others.

In May 2014, Rucker's parents offered up a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of their son's killer, but it was not known Friday what the status of the reward is given Murphy's arrest.
